Your living room is where the day slows down. It’s where you watch, talk, read and gather, so the wall behind it all matters. Living room feature wall ideas that work

A feature wall gives a living room a natural center. Most people choose the wall behind the sofa, the wall around the TV or the one you see first when you walk in. Run the panels from floor to ceiling for a calm, architectural look, or cover only part of the wall to frame a sideboard or reading corner. Vertical slats make the room feel taller. A darker finish against light walls adds depth, while a light oak tone keeps a smaller living room open and bright. Browse the photos above to see how other homes use the same wall.

A TV wall that keeps the focus on the screen

A TV on a bare wall often looks unfinished. Wall panels behind the TV turn it into a media wall that feels designed, not just placed. The slats frame the screen, the felt takes the edge off the sound, and the wood makes a black screen easier to live with when it’s off. You can mount your TV directly on the Akupanel with the Fjell TV mount. It holds screens from 17” to 85” (depending on the model) and clips onto the panel without drilling. Hide cables up to 7 mm thick between the slats with the Pop-On cable cover, and add an Arka TV console below to complete the wall.

Panels around a fireplace

A fireplace is already the heart of the room. Wood paneling around it adds warmth and gives the fireplace surround a modern, finished frame. Many customers panel the full chimney breast and leave the fireplace opening clear, or panel the walls on each side for a balanced look. Always keep the panels outside the heat zone your fireplace manufacturer specifies and follow your local building codes.

A calmer sound in open-plan living

Open-plan homes are great for light and space, but hard floors, large windows and high ceilings make sound bounce around. The living room often gets the worst of it, with the TV, the kitchen and conversations all mixing together. Every Akupanel has slats on an acoustic felt backing that absorbs sound instead of reflecting it, with Class A sound absorption. The result is a living room where you can talk at normal volume and hear the TV without turning it up.

Choose the finish that fits your living room

Start with the mood you want in the room. Our natural wood Akupanels bring real grain and slight variation from panel to panel, for a living room that feels authentic and warm. Our wood-like Akupanels give you the same look with a consistent color that won’t fade in a sunny room. Colored Akupanels set the tone for the whole space. Not sure yet? Order samples and hold them against your wall in your own light.

Make the wall work for you

Once the panels are up, the wall can do more than look good. Create accessories clip between the slats without tools or holes, so you can add shelves for books and plants, a wall lamp beside the sofa or soft Lumi LED light that glows out from behind the panels. Move things around whenever your living room changes.
